I'm not one of the millions of teenage fans who jumped on the Drake bandwagon after 1-2 hits, but I can't deny the man's talent. Even so, I'm going to allow Drake to earn my respect/attention, before I start lauding him as the premier force in rap.
Well, I don't know what it is about Drake, but DESPITE the incredible success of his music content, this rising star seems to be very... "obstacle-prone."
1. ACL injury a few months ago brings unwanted press and questions about Drake's live performance ability.
2. The 2009 BET awards performance with Lil' Wayne receives tons of bad press. With underage girls dancing their hearts out to a song about "'F'ing every girl in the world," the BET network had to issue a formal apology for Drake's stage showing.
3. The Kanye West directed "Best I Ever Had" video was NOT a hit among Drake's fans. With the over-exposure of the female anatomy and unrelated video plot, Drake's momentum faltered big time (He alienated a large % of his fan base).
4. Tonight, in a NJ concert, Drake forgot to go easy on his recovering leg. He was overcome by performance excitement, reportedly jumping around stage and even spinning. Unfortunately, while he gave the fans what they wanted, he also re-injured his knee/leg, and ACL injuries are not pretty or quick to heal. Drake had to be taken off stage, so this sounds pretty serious.
My Question: Will Drake ever reach solid ground and become the Rap messiah that fans already think he is, or will these constant pitfalls get the best of this new, unseasoned rapper?
You nailed it (pause). He's had more missteps out the gate than any new artist in recent memory. He is talented but he come across as corny... I obviously don't know dude but that's the impression he gives off. He's nice when he's rapping, though. He needs to surround himself with people that offer better counsel, I guess.
ReplyDeleteAw, hope he gets better :]

ReplyDeleteThe haters really have to stop comparing him to Wayne . Wayne has his own style, and so does Drake .. get over it (: You still have to give Drake some props because most of his songs are good, and he's just doing his thing.
Hopefully all is well with Drake though. Hope he's doing good.
Who is this person?
ReplyDeleteo_O really I don't even know who he is?

ReplyDelete=/ well..... just putting this out there the "little girls" on stage dancing to the song "Every Girl in the World" were Lil'Waynes daughter and her friends if anyone didnt know that then they are ignorant and on top of that i dont see why it was a big deal i can understand if the girls were exposing their cleavage but they were not they were all COMPLETELY covered.
ReplyDeleteoh also he shouldnt be critizised on injuries he didnt attend on getting. especially when its the same one.
finally. if Kanye directed the video for "Best I Ever Had" shouldnt he be the one critizised for creating a not so good music video? since Drake wasnt the one who put it together besides which rapper actually has a video with the same plot as the song now a days? you shouldnt really judge people on stuff that your not fully aware of because if your were aware of it then you should have mentioned it instead of getting other people to think bad about a certain celeberty
dude what the hell you talking about? the best I ever had video had a very related plot to the song, he did it in a SMART and FUNNY way so that its just not a video with him and some chick boning or naked and shit like MOST other artists would do for a song like that. So open yer eyes idiot and think about what you write.
ReplyDeleteI AGREE WITH THE TWO DUDES ABOVE ME! QUIT HATING ON DRAKE DUDE. LAME.
