2010 MTV VMAs: Taylor v. Kanye - Round 2 - Fight!

Yes, the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards stage design was amazing. Yes, Lady Gaga and Eminem won big. Yes, Drake, Rihanna, and Justin Beiber performed.

BUT the thrill of the night revolved around 2 performances - Taylor Swift and Kanye West.

After Kanye's infamous interruption of the young country singer's acceptance speech at the 2009 VMAs, Kanye found himself excommunicated from the music industry. He lost fans, the support of the media, and was cast out as the industry leper. Well, 2010 has marked Kanye's triumphant return, with songs like "Power" and the hugely popular remix. Taylor Swift, still high off of last year's success and influx of support, has had a tamer but profitable year leading up to the awards. Combine this with Kanye's recent public apology to Taylor on twitter just a few weeks ago, we all thought that any beef between the two stars had long been pushed to the past...we were wrong. or were we?

Taylor Swift chose to perform a "tongue-in-cheek" song called "Innocent," written about the 32 y.o. rapper, in which she reprises her role as the victim of last year's "tragedy," but goes on to assure Kanye that she's forgiven him, understands he's bigger than his mistakes, and is still innocent in her eyes.

Lyrically and melodically I thought Taylor's song was very impressive and heartfelt. The only issue I had came with the intro video leading up to the performance which depicted Kanye as a loose cannon and Taylor as a simple, sweet girl whose accomplishment was spat on. (Oh wait, that's what happened...) Even so, revisiting that event was the last thing anyone wanted to do and for me it came across as unnecessary and tactless. The situation wasn't that black and white and also revolved around an MTV VMA award...not a Grammy, or a life...an MTV award. Not that serious in the grand scheme of things.

Ultimately, it appeared she was using that "tragic" event to stay relevant in 2010, a quiet year for her, and appeal for sympathetic support. She did, however, paint a vivid and successful picture by singing barefoot with just a simple dress and dark makeup.  I briefly felt a little sad for her again...

Do you think her performance was too much? Warranted? Necessary? Artistic? Overly dramatic?

No matter, Kanye answered back with the strength of an army in his show-ending performance. Visually impeccable with a bright red suit, white background, ballet dancers and one simple beat machine on stage, Kanye made us remember (for those who forgot) exactly why he IS a star and creative master. Embracing a new mantra of humility and growth, Kanye indirectly rebuked himself as the douche bag, asshole, and jerk-off that Taylor had referenced as innocent.

While Taylor had depicted the rapper as a lost soul whom she would coddle with her words of forgiveness, Kanye offered a contrasting portrait of a man taking his power back, maturing on his own, aware of his imperfections, and one who is genuinely good.

So, who won the battle? Was it a battle at all?

The only thing certain is that at the end of the night, the very crowd that had booed him last year, now found itself chanting "KANYE, KANYE, KANYE!"

Remember: Power is to be used wisely.

Hoarding and Me

A&E debuted their new show Hoarders...

I only was able to catch parts of it...and the link to watch the entire episode isn't working on A&E's site but wow...riveting. You usually only see people who hoard trash and junk...I have never seen one with food. My mother caught the whole episode and relayed it to my in gritty details. The more I listened...the more fearful I got.

Why? I’m bad with food… I have too many food-based fears and, at the same time, I take too many risks when it comes to it. This is gross…but…I have cut mold off of cheese and bread and eaten the rest… With other foods though, fruit in particular, if there is a soft spot…I can’t bring myself to eat it or if I’ve had it more than three days (and I always buy in bulk mind you), I also can’t eat it. There really is no reason ever for me to buy milk…I never use it! But every time I go to the store…I buy some.

That being said…I never considered myself a hoarder per se. After watching the show, however, there may be some early signs I need to watch for. I’m sure I’ve mentioned in the past that I’m a huge fan of the Intervention and Obsessed (which is relatively new to the game) shows based on Addition and OCD. Well…hoarding is a form of OCD as well but is probably one of the more common and possibly dangerous OCD’s evidenced
here and here (careful with the second one...you may puke).

I see a lot of myself in this woman, although mine hasn’t become dangerous or unhealthy and I don’t have an attachment to the food; I CAN and WILL throw it away when it becomes inconvenient. But…still…signs are there. I have let fruit rot in the fridge. When it starts to mold, I become sickened by it and can’t eat anything in the fridge. I also…can’t bring myself to touch it, so for days at a time, I will have mini-panics if I have to open the fridge for any reason. When it gets to be disgusting enough…I’ll finally bring myself to throw it away. More often than not, however, someone else has already done that. If we were to open my freezer…half of the meat in there has intense freezer burn… I frequent Sam’s club and buy chicken and steak in bulk (steak is nicely priced there!) but then I wont want those things…so I never actually eat them. Its one of those “shopped when I was hungry” kinds of things. My hoarding is more pricy than anything.

At least I have taken step one and realized it and now know that I can do things to combat it before it gets out of control:

1) Go shopping every two or three days. When I finally strike out on my own…I’m going to do my best to live near a farmer’s market and/or a grocery store- like within walking distance. That way I won’t have the issues I have with fruits because I’ll always know they’re fresh.

2) Shop with recipes in mind. My problem is that I’ll go with like 12 or 13 recipes but I’ll only actually do like 2 of them and not the rest because my tastes have changed. If I shop every two or three days, I’ll be more likely to still want to eat that stuff.

3) Set a budget. Another issue I have is…buying too much food. I’ll tweak recipes (a little extra meat…three or four more tomatoes) to fit what I THINK i’ll need and it always turns out to be more. So…if I’m shopping for two or three days…but 4 chicken breasts rather than a pack of 12. Sounds like a lot less wasted meat already!

4) If all else fails – live with ravenous teenage/college boys. They’ll eat any and everything. I’ll never have food!

Keep you updated!

Oh Disney

Oh Disney...what have you DONE?!

Is it just me or are all the idols of our childhood CRAZY now? I mean...wow. It's not just Disney...Nickolodeon, CW...all of them have bred straight insanity! Pop culture train-wrecks are a product of their environment. Take a cute aspiring child actress/singer or heir of some sort and add constant attention and t.v. cameras and this is what you get...

LOL...ok...that's mean...but seriously...

Think about it. They are cute as a button on some show and for years are followed and loved. They are often robbed of their childhood (though many of them choose that and even enjoy the fame and fortune) and are forced to grow up and make their mistakes in the public eye. I will even give them some slack...I mean...I kissed boys when people thought I was too young. I was not always the sweet innocent little girl. I cursed sometimes, I took part in teasing of others... But...I mean...you are in the public eye! You need to tone that shit down. Think about it...YOU'RE AN ACTOR...YOU GET PAID TO BE SOMEONE ELSE... Do your dirt in the privacy of your own home (with no cameras around of course) and continue acting like the cute little one you are. Want to shed that sweet image? Pull a Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and do a nude play or play a drug addict in a movie... THEN you can be a bad girl/boy...just wait until your disney contract and your status as teen idol fade before you do!

Here is a nice gallery of some of the child stars of our day (and some current ones)... Peruse and enjoy!

More to Love? (Or Hate)

This show was an experiment on many levels. The premise: an overweight bachelor and 20 or so overweight bachelorettes attempt to find love in the typical alcohol-filled elimination-game setting. Is society ready to see several overweight people fall in love? This show will apparently answer that question.

I watched the first episode on Hulu this morning- meaning that I didn’t have all the first night hype that many of these shows that people regularly follow have. I also skipped commercials which meant that I didn’t have as much anticipation. Now…my reaction is as follows:

Decent show but I have a lot of issues with some of the way the women were portrayed and how they portrayed themselves.

ISSUES:

-Where did they find these women? Cry babies anonymous? When you watch shows such as the Bachelor (what this show is essentially modeled after) the women are confident and know they are worthy of this man. This show--- not so much. So much crying and whining about how they never felt loved and never had a date or been kissed and all of it was due to their weight. I personally didn’t notice one woman who was happy with her body and happy with the way her life was going… Not to be racist or feed into stereotypes…but they should have had some of my fellow sistas on there! I personally hate my size and want to lose weight but some of the women I see down here LOVE their bodies and are HAPPY. They dress well and carry their weight well…they are not sloppy. Which brings me to my next point.

- What the hell are these chicks wearing? I saw so many bras and bra straps. There is a certain way to dress for your body and these women do not know it. No one can wear EVERYTHING. You’ve got no boobs? Cant wear a halter top! My problem, at my skinniest, was that my hip and rib bones protruded- even as a skinny girl I had to worry about what I wore!!… Some of these girls… come on! Some dresses were like two sizes too small and made some of the girls have like 14 different muffin tops peeking out. You should essentially be able to wear whatever you want…but if you do…make sure that your its and bits aren't showing (underwear, areas of skin that aren't meant to be shown with that outfit, privates...) These were BEAUTIFUL girls packing themselves into ill-fitting dresses. Come on now...

- Some of the first things out of the girls’ mouths while meeting this man are “What do you like to eat?!” …There’s nothing totally wrong with this…I just thought it was interesting. Not…do you speak any languages? Where do you work? Do you like puppies?

- The show, similar to the other ones, places the girls name and their occupation under them. In addition this show thought it important to put the girls’ heights and weights on as well. Now…I don’t know what’s up with their scales…but…uh…. Well you watch the clip and you decide..

- One other thing…a lot of them women were crying and going on about how people judge them immediately based on their size and don’t give them a chance or try to get to know them. Then a couple of seconds later… "they’d rather have the skinny bitches”. So, let me get this straight, you want someone to treat you with respect regardless of your size but you can so quickly dismiss someone else and judge them because they are a different size? Please…

POSITIVITY:

Uh..there’s not much. They did find some interesting women but most are unhappy with their weights. I think it is good for society to get more used to seeing normal sized and larger people on t.v. instead of brainwashing us into thinking that everyone should be a size 0. Is it good for us to get TOO comfortable with obesity? Who knows… It’s definitely not good for us to see anorexic and sickly people all the time...

THOUGHTS/SPINS:

I wonder why they did a large man searching for love with large women. If I was a t.v. exec- I would have made bank on this! This would have been my set up. In the hills of Hollywood there are two adjacent houses. In one house, Jason, a gorgeous and very muscular architect is searching for a beautiful woman to spend his life with. In the next, Vanessa, a beautiful and athletic exec also begins her own quest for love. The catch? Both of them prefer the love of a curvier significant other. That would be interesting! Two shows for the price of one!
-------------------------------------------

Gonna do my best to keep up with this show and see how it goes. I'm sure...like all of the rest...whatever marriage happens at the end will fall through quickly after but its always interesting to watch the train wreck as it goes.

To the women... GROW SOME BALLS! Stop crying!

2009 BET Awards Review

After over two months of anticipation, commercials, and hype, the 2009 BET Awards aired last night nationwide. With Michael Jackson's death occurring just 3 days prior to the live broadcast, BET expectedly and willingly burdened itself with an attempt to revamp a show that had likely been planned "down to a T" for months. Unfortunately for BET and the viewing audiences, it seemed that any organization and structure that might have once existed went AWOL. The 4 hour broadcast succeeded in making me shake my head in disapproval time and time again.

The show opened with a tribute to the Jackson 5 "sung" (and I use the term lightly) by 80s-90s R&B group New Edition. Bobby Brown and his groupmates had the dance steps down perfectly but vocally they were out of commission. It would have been a better opening to have Boyz II Men +1 or a lineup of individual male artists - Neyo, Mario, Ginuwine, Tyrese, Usher - do the tribute.

Next came the big MC intro skit by Jamie Foxx, and while he certainly grabbed all of our attention and likely had you laughing, I couldn't help but notice how poorly the sound system was performing. Unlike at most award shows where there is a nice crowd mic-stage mic-hand mic balance, the hand and crowd mics were at a much lower volumes than they should have been. Consequently, instead of hearing Jamie's jokes followed by uproarious laughter, all you heard was a muffled, in and out crowd reaction that made it seem like Jamie was falling flat. Even so, the hype and energy was so high for this awards show that all was forgiven.  The house crowd and we home viewers were anxious to move along towards WHATEVER the climax of the show, dedicated to Michael Jackson, would be.

Well, throughout the night we witnessed a lot of mediocre performances, missed stage cues, dead air time, mic issues, lack of comedy, and long-winded speeches. Over time, these shortcomings in production decisions and technical problems drained every ounce of excitement that had existed at the top of the broadcast. Watching the TV became almost a burden of the heart where viewers were left waiting for greatness - something to pay proper tribute to Michael or be the "water cooler topic" for work. Sadly, the closest thing we received was an unexpected and touching speech from Janet Jackson, expressing her grief, gratitude, and love of the community's support. We appreciated her brief appearance, and it provided a last minute boost in energy for the program. Jamie Foxx and Neyo then ended the broadcast with a sweet sounding, emotional duet that complemented the somber yet thankful mood Janet inspired.

So why are so many calling the 2009 BET Awards show a major fail? It's simple. There was nothing in the show that lived up to the hype: no singular powerful MJ tribute, no historic or shocking performances, horrible sound editing, and a ton of just plain mediocrity. But what do you expect? Right now a good number of the artists being promoted and GIVEN success are little more than mediocre. This awards show was ultimately a testament to the fact that you can't create Greatness from a pile of sub par and misused ingredients.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:
- "Blame it on the Alcohol Performance" - Jamie Foxx
- 16 y.o. Keke Palmer schooling the wannabe female singers with her short a cappella tribute to MJ
- "Sheneneh and Wanda" movie trailer - Martin and Jamie (this needs to happen)
- Mary Mary & Queen Latifah performance of "It's the God in Me"
- O Jays tribute medley - Tevin Campbell, Tyrese, Johnny Gill, and Trey Songz)
- O Jays performance - sounded remarkably better than many of the younger groups on the show
- Eddie Levert's accidental slip up - "Dancing and Sh*t"
- Jay Z's D.O.A. performance - Undeniable swag, lyrical strength, and stage presence. Very little bleeping needed.
- Acting done by Ving Rhames, Tyrese, and Taraji P. Henson prior to announcing the winner for "Best female R&B."  We were all watching in horror (praying AGAINST a ghetto mess), not knowing whether it was all an act or if Ving and Tyrese were getting ready to throw down on national television.

SHOW LOWLIGHTS:
- Opening performance by New Edition was not successful vocally. At all
- Every return from a commercial break - Dead air
- Not announcing the nominees was in poor taste. It took away from the "awards" aspect of the show, robbed the viewers of the moment of anticipation, and did not show respect for the non-winning nominees
- Don Cornelius' long winded speech during the O Jays tribute. No one was paying attention and his story dragged on for far too long
- Drake & Lil Wayne performance - Drake's torn ACL confined him to a stool, Lil Wayne's lyrics had so many curses that he was being bleeped on practically every other word. I actually muted my TV on this performance because it sounded like a drawn out train wreck. Combine all that with the underage, 12-14 year old girls dancing on stage to "I wish I could F#*k every girl in the world," and you have a CERTIFIED SOURCE AWARDS HOT MESS.

DIM LIGHTS, The mediocre:
- Keri Hilson's performance was visually stimulating, but vocally underwhelming. She switched mics too often and each mic was at a different sound level, making her performance sound disjointed and manic at times.
- Soulja Boy's "Turn my swag on" - typical and nothing special
- Beyonce's "Ave Maria" was beautiful and sweet, but it seemed more like a clipping from her tour than a unique and crowd-pleasing showcase crafted for the BET Awards/MJ tribute
- Ciara singing a ballad instead of performing an energetic MJ tribute. Again, it was sweet but just time-filler. A ballad would have been better suited for Chrisette Michelle, Letoya Luckett, or KEKE PALMER!
- Neyo's throwback icon medley featuring Keith Sweat, Guy, and B.B.D. - Once again, the dance steps and visual were there, but vocal aspects were lacking.
- Jamie Foxx's hosting - At one point we forgot he was even there.

With so many low and dim elements in the BET broadcast, there was no way this awards show could do justice to MJ or even be cited as one of the better BET awards.

Do you agree with me? Am I just wrong?

Be well,

1000 (Stupid) Ways to Die

Always wear clean underwear....

You know how your grandma always told you that...in case you crashed or died...You know...wouldnt want people looking at streaks. Well...I'm less concerned about the cleanliness of my Vickies when I'm DEAD! If I could worry though...I'd be more interested in what I was doing when I died. Was I on the crapper (Hi Elvis!)? Was I...hanging in a closet with my genitals bound (David Carradine)? Too soon...I know....

I stand by this though....Natural Selection is our friend.

Despite nature having a way to remove the ....lesser members of our society (hey...dont judge me... yell at mother nature!)...we have made advances in medicine to keep them around...

Before you begin hating me... I bring this up because I was watching one of my new favorite shows "1000 Ways to Die" and as usual...found myself wondering how these idiots made it as far as they did in life. Yes...this show details real people who have died...(many of them just simply being dumb...but some unfortunate ones) and discusses how they died.

Sometimes...I laugh...

Sometimes...I feel sorry for the person...and their unfortunate circumstance...

More often than not though, I laugh.

I mean...if you haven't seen this show...watch it. You'd be AMAZED at the stupid shit that people do and die from. Here are some MORE clips (cuz I know you're dying to see more! <3).>

Bruno *Violates* Eminem at the MTV Movie Awards

Thanks to Ms. Donna for sending in this lovely picture!
You may have missed the 2009 MTV Movie Awards!
If so, BE GLAD - completely bereft of any entertainment quality.

There have been two highlights so far. 1) Bruno (who exactly is Bruno?!) falls onto rapper Eminem from the sky and conveniently lands in a 69 position with his bare ass in Eminem's face. Eminem, seemingly angered and jostled by the butt, was overheard on the microphone cursing and demanding Bruno get off of him. After Eminem's bodyguards pulled/assaulted the dangling Bruno, Eminem stood up and walked out of the MTV Movie Awards. Set up or no? What do you think?

2) Kristen Stewart, who shockingly won the award for best female actress *beating out oscar and golden globe nominees*, clumsily drops the coveted award on the floor.  Clip now Available:

*Highlights* - Kobe & Lebron Puppet Commercials pt. 2

In case you haven't stayed up to date with the newest installments of the Lebron & Kobe Nike puppet commercials, here they are - all together! It's unfortunate that we won't be getting our dream final of Black Mamba Kobe vs. King James. Hopefully Superman will keep the NBA finals interesting and competitive.

Here are the commercials - catch up:

These TV ads have been some of the most effective I've seen in years. Not only did they revive the idea of intense NBA rivalries (something that has been lacking since the Reggie Miller, Patrick Ewing, Alonzo Mourning, Michael Jordan days), but Nike is probably going to get a nice boost in sales or at least market relevance.

Without question, this ad campaign gets high honors - CUM LAUDE:

*Highlights* - RuPaul's Drag Race - Season 2 Winner?!

A "loose" Drag Queen was spotted on a New York subway earlier this month. Although this particular "Queen" was not involved in any visible competition at the moment, it is still clear that "she" was in her zone and ready to entertain. From her FIERCE walk to her EXPERT POLE HANDLING, we may have actually found RuPaul's Drag Race Season 2 winner! What's more, if this Queen does audition and make the show, it will TRULY, TRULY be a rags to riches fairytale.

Watch this short clip of the future winner seemingly in her "natural" element.  Enjoy the video. It may get you as high as "she" was!

Subway doors may need upgrading if this Queen continues performing her routine for NY's underground commuters.

This Drag Routine gets 4 stars, but only because of the ashy knees:

Reality TV is bad...

and if you watch it, you should feel bad. Reality TV is really, really lowest common denominator stuff. There is the stuff that shocks the conscience. What kind of human being puts their promiscuity, lies and idiocy on primetime television? Better yet, who are these 40 million mouthbreathers that can't get enough of Flava of Love, etc.? The internet also lends itself to highly voyeuristic outlets many of which I enjoy. Postsecret. Fmylife. textsfromlastnight. The difference between these and the more out there tv shows is that the internet is anonymous. ON THE INTERNET, NOBODY CAN PROVE THAT IT WAS YOU, RICK ADAMS, THAT REALIZED IT WAS A TRANNY HALFWAY THROUGH, BUT DECIDED TO FINISH. Essentially, I'm arguing the difference between (1) telling your friend you had explosive diarrhea and (2) having your friend in that stall with you reeling from the noxious fumes as your bowels spasm. Both are objectively gross but one is still much worse than the other. If you watch realityTV that as its premise chills and just stalks people as they make idiots out of themselves, you basically endorse the creation of snuff porn. Flagships of this category: Real World, Flava of Love, The Moment of Truth, Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire

From there we go to the other category. These aren't grotesque so much as they're a bit silly. The reality isn't reality and the drama is ridiculous given the low intensity nature of the interactions. Depending on the level of exaggerated drama, some of these lapse into the murder porn of group 1. You're not a terrible person for watching them but you may be an abject failure who subconsciously realizes that these shows are as close as you'll ever get to grandeur. Flagships of this category: Survivor, Man vs. Wild, American Idol, America's Next Top Model, The Apprentice

The final category is reality tv that is a-ok and is viewed by champions of men. The only show in this category is The Biggest Loser.

Reality TV and Me :-)

It's safe to say I'm a reality TV addict at this point.

It began senior winter, when I was sharing an apartment with two good friends. That term, Flavor of Love 2 came out, and my roommates decided to make the show our "bonding" time.  We would all get together, cook & eat, crack jokes, and have ourselves a grand old time.  Little did we know we would become so attached to the shows characters that we'd go on to watch "I Love NY" and "Charm School" later that same school year.  It just seemed like an "innocent" guilty pleasure back then...

Fast forward to 2009...

I'm 100 pounds heavier - 302 lbs, can't see my feet when/if I walk, my bed has permanent dent in it, and my floor is covered with ice cream containers...

You believe me?  That's completely untrue.

Okay, here's a sampling of the Reality TV shows I've watched this year.  Keep in mind it's ONLY MAY!

I Love Money 2 - Favorite.  I swear by this show. So funny and surprisingly exciting
Real World Brooklyn - Watched (this is the 1st season I've watched in entirety)
Making the Band 4 - Great season, lots of group fighting and music
G's to Gents - Watched the 2nd half of season
For the Love of Ray J - Meh, but watched it
American Idol - Watched.  Adam or Allison should have won. The End.
NY Goes to Work - Barely watch this!  Only if I happen upon it
Taking the Stage - Never got into it really.  Just a way to waste time
Tough Love - ...my addiction to Reality TV was NOT strong enough to get me to consistently view that garbage.

I really need to block MTV and VH1 programming.  What's more, I didn't have cable growing up, so my penchant for cable reality is definitely a recent, unexpected development.  This past Monday, while watching New York working at a nudist resort, my Dad walked in and asked, "What are you watching?  Where do you find this stuff?!"

It's time for a change, right? Hmmm, maybe I'll wait until the series finale, or better yet, the reunion special! ha

The appeal of reality shows for me is the fierce competition combined with shameless behavior.  After 22 years of seeing perfection and poise on basic TV 24/7, it was a welcomed surprise to see multidimensional characters - real people unashamed to go  in front of the camera without a filter.  You learn to appreciate the flaws and discover every person has some good in them, even if it's only their intentions.

I am happy to say now that American Idol is over, there aren't any reality TV shows piquing my interest at the moment.

I've even starting watching NBA basketball again! (a childhood favorite)

And don't judge me.  WHO KNOWS what YOUR guilty pleasure is...

Be Well,

REALLY tho?

AGHHHH!!!!! Reality TV

I didn't get into the Survivor thing. Never watched Real World. Didn't follow American Idol.

I DID get really hype about Flavor of Love and I Love New York (just the first seasons for both). WHY?! Because EVERYONE was a character! O man. I CHEERED for certain contestants. My friends and I would RUN back the house or stop at a common area with a TV JUST to catch the episodes. If we couldn't...YOUTUBE!!!! We DISCUSSED the show. WTF?! Discuss WHAT?! Nonsense. We were emotionally attached to NONSENSE!!!

THAT, my friends, is entertainment and media today. SAD!

For the most part, reality TV really means unrealistic competitions and celebrities/randos at home on camera. How REAL is anything on those shows? Reality TV is definitely a misnomer.

Competing for LOVE? What do those challenges have ANYTHING to do with finding your soulmate or even a DATE?

Competing for MONEY? Again, the challenges very rarely accurately simulate real life challenges to get that paper.

Competing for a CONTRACT? See Competing for MONEY.

Celebrities and Randos at Home? I mean, we all love some Celebrity Voyeurism. I get that. Seeing the lives of the rich and famous. Are they like REAL people, too?! What kind of homes and toys did they get with all that moola?! But, I'm not sure why people are so fascinated with Average Joes and what they do. I guess we're all just nosy, nosy people.

We consume these shows probably with more fervor and regularity than scripted shows. At least with scripted shows we know it's fake and can chalk up overly dramatic scenarios to it just being TV. But these reality shows are just as bad if not WORSE with the drama! I can't even tell if shows like Laguna Beach, The Hills, and whatever spin-offs and racially different incarnations (I'm lookin at you, Harlem Heights) are real or scripted.

Fun shows like America's Best Dance Crew don't really CHANGE society. They make us more aware, maybe, of whatever it is they're promoting (in ABDC's case, dance). But shows like Cribs and America's Next Top Model give people a REALLY skewed view of how things work. People start thinking that having BLING BLAO is a necessity and money is a RIGHT, instead of a privilege. People get the wrong idea of how certain industries work and what it TRULY takes to be the best at anything.

SMH. On a larger scale, reality TV is truthful lies. Degrades society like it's a luxury to be wasted. THIS IS SOCIETY, PEOPLE!!! We have worked TOO hard at being civilized just to eminate the few that are bottom feeders. We have worked TOO hard believing that we reap benefits from hard work just to watch other people swim in cash for doing very little in a short period of time.

Again. Not ALL shows are like that. But enough people are stuck on the bad shows to really worry me. An besides, why should I, would I sit in front of a TV and watch SOMEONE ELSE'S life happen while my days just whiz by?

So I'm going to leave reality TV alone and enjoy my scripted melodramas and overacted comedies.

Trash T.V. at its Finest!

Ask anyone who knows me...and they'll tell you that I love my Trash T.V.!

Hand me the remote and prepared to be amazed by the crap that I can stand to watch. I love to watch “reality” t.v. and that drives my family insane! Reality t.v. is horrible, they say, this is why our society is full of idiots and everyone else in the world thinks we’re stupid. Do I agree with that? Nah…we were bound to be stupid with or without t.v. We can no longer add and subtract simple math (Cashiers- I’m talking to you!) thanks to computers, and most of us would probably starve to death if we ever got lost in the woods (No need for survival instincts in a technological world!). Can’t blame all of that on reality t.v.!

So what’s my pleasure? I have one show that I watch at this moment which is Cheaters. Love that show-there’s so much to love (and hate)! It’s a show about…well...cheaters... The premise: Significant other (we'll call him Bobby) has all the signs available to a person that his girlfriend (we'll call her Sarah) is cheating on him. She works late, disappears for hours on end without a call, has lost interest in a sex life with him, often smells of men or has strange 'bruises' on her neck (hickies, my innocent dearies). Yet Bobby still needs to know whether or not she is cheating- so he hires Cheaters! A private detective then follows Sarah around for a few days until he catches the deed (sometimes they place hidden cameras if Bobby owns the house they live in) and then they show the video to Bobby and ask him would he like to confront them. OF COURSE HE WOULD! So....while Sarah and her new man/woman are in the midst of a passionate session, in swoops the entire Cheaters crew with cameras ablazing to confront them. Amazing. From here- many things can happen: Sarah becomes the victim and blames Bobby and asks him why he couldnt simply ask her if she was cheating rather than destroying her trust of him (lmao) and having people follow her, a fight breaks out between anyone and everyone involved, Bobby cries, Sarah is forgiven. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN!

Here are some clips from some "Best of" compilations. A dominatrix, a suicide attempt, a stabbing and a new baby being born! Enjoy!
