Short and sweet...
I apologize for the lack of a post last week and the shortened post for today- I have been, as all of our bloggers are currently, stacking my chips and working on getting some other opportunities together. Been working my ass off at work and trying to figure out what the hell I'm going to do for the next few months.
Work has been so crazy lately- when it rains...it pours! New policies have been enacted which has shifted more burden on the people in my position. While that's going on...a Partner, whom I enjoy working under and am learning a lot from, has decided to give me more responsibilities...something I can't and don't want to say no to... Remember...this is all going to look great on my resume. What this means is...more work, more hours, and less 'surfing the net time'.
I'm also getting together my own law school apps so that I can be just like our buddy Guy- overwhelmed and working toward the future. Hopefully I can get off my ass and get these apps in Early Decision so I'll know soon where I'm going to end up IF I manage to get in anywhere. I've been speaking to a ton of people, normal people like me...not ones like Guy who practically aced the LSAT (hate you) who say that they didn't get in on their first set of apps and had to wait a year. Oh God....that CANNOT happen. Nervewrecking....
This realization that I might not get in to the places I want to go (and the realization that some schools cost like $70,000 a year...) has made me start looking less at the Ivies and more at state and other schools. I've been taking more factors into consideration- what schools are best based on what I want to study? What interesting other courses are offered (Should have looked at that for undergrad...)? Where would I want to live/intern/practice law? Where would be CHEAP but still give a great education? I will most likely end up in a Georgia or NC school due to the fact that I'd get In-State Tuition because I have lived/currently live in those places. We'll see. Shifting away from that name thing and more towards practicality....
Anyway- just wanted to touch base! Got a lot to do!

Internet Withdrawal - I'm Scared o_O
Guys, as of this moment I have 14 minutes of internet and computer access left for the entire night! It's 7:48 on Tuesday evening, and I foolishly left my computer power chord at work.
What am I going to do?
Funny thing is, this will probably be the most productive night I've had in a really long time. I'll actually have time and no distractions from cleaning, putting things in drawers, writing lyrics, and more. So why am I dreading this experience? I'm steadily looking at my battery meter and the fear of the unknown is growing and GROWING!
Dang, how attached have I - have we - become to these random buttons and screens. I can't believe I'm to the point where 5 waking hours without internet communication is a fearful...maybe not fearful...but EXTREMELY undesirable experience. *T minus 12 minutes* There was a time just over 6 years ago when I was online by choice for all of 2 hours on an "excessive" night! I can hear the AOL phone dialing now *sigh*
I'm trying to get my Twitter fix for the night now. Fortunately I can check email on my phone...I'll probably do that a good 7 times. SMH @ ME! I'm addicted to Internet connection. I wonder if I'll experience any side effects from my withdrawal. Hmm:
-Restful night
-Energized for tomorrow
-Eat and what an entertaining show
-Do something music related tonight (write, practice piano, a *YOU ARE RUNNING ON RESERVE BATTERY POWER - 0:09 minutes*
Oh well! Let me get off this thing and accept my fate. I have to make my way back to Twitter for a few more minutes and then it's Blackout time. Keep me in your prayers, haha.
Be Well,

My Job and Me... REALLY? A JOB?!
Take my absence and recent silence on this blog as a good thing; it only means I'm preoccupied by things I clearly value.
On Monday of this past week I began working as an intern for a Music licensing and branding firm in NY. This firm has the HOOK UP, and has placed and licensed music for some of the biggest commercials and TV spots out there. Obviously, me being a music lover, I'm more that ecstatic to have such a role, and the fact that it will likely evolve into a full-time position makes it even better.
My duties include maintaining the music library, reaching out to and scouting new talent to bring on board, and conversing with major advertisers and managers about partnerships - Could this be more ideal for me!? Well, yes, it could be. It'd be awesome to receive a full salary and benefits, BUT I can't and won't complain. I'm getting my lunches paid for, all my travel is covered by the company, I get a weekly monetary stipend, and I get free entry to a lot of the exclusive music events in and around the city.
There are definitely issues with the company, and it is not as perfect as it sounds; however, I have faith that this is happening for a reason, and I am going to fulfill my duties with 200% of my ability. I'm already the CEO's "go-to" person, and he's entrusted me with a TON of secrets concerning his personal and business drama. I don't care. I'm taking this experience and running with it. At the very least, my foot is in the door at a very reputable music institution, and my boss will likely write me an amazing recommendation.
In addition to this good news, I've also been doing LOTS of public showcases and shoving my fears to the side. I've sung at open mics 3 times in the past two weeks, and just yesterday I opened up for a 3-act comedy set in NJ. The audience loved me, and I was extremely pleased with my sound and comfort on stage. I'll be singing again publicly either Sunday or Monday, so I'll continue giving you all updates.
All I can do is thank God for patience and trust that he is guiding me even when I feel like I'm lost in the dark.
Be well, and keep dreaming Read more...

A heartbreaking work of super briefing genius
warning: The following post contains frequent mention of law school and law school related activities. If you are offended by the talk of law school, whether of the T14 or TTT variety, you might want to wander elsewhere and offend not thy precious sensibilities.
The last seven days have been the most difficult, most humbling string of incoherent hours of my life. I have never been more tired or more sore or more weepy or more terrified or more joyous. I will soon write a post dedicated specifically to what happened during Legal Research and Writing, but right now I'm just concentrating on making it hour to hour. I will say that I had really low expectations for law school, meaning I thought it was going to be a horrific, gory experience, and I know that it is for many law students, but it is because of those low expectations that I can actually sit here seven days later and say that orientation was a somewhat pleasant, perfectly manageable process. The lesson to be learned from this is, of course, to aim low in life and be thrilled when the worst doesn't happen. I am a new law student and I'm already doling out superficially useful advice that turns out not to be applicable to anything.
What hasn't been perfectly manageable, however, is the inhumane aftermath of orientation that no one really talks about. Just when I thought things couldn't get any worse -- worse than the case briefing assignment, the 5 pound books, the bleeding, the abdominal contractions and cramps, the body-contorting fatigue -- I realized this morning that I haven't been reading my other, OTHER set of textbooks and am now in the library at 9pm on a Saturday.
Here is where talk of law school really kicks in.
Right now I'm looking at The Law of Civil Procedure, Contract Law and Theory, and Cases and Materials on Torts along with their corresponding E&Es. The thing about E&Es is that they're supposed to make the material easy to process, and for normal people who retain information normally, E&E's may actually make material simple and easy to understand. I have never processed information normally, and all the drinking I did during undergrad has basically made it so that my body cannot EVER retain information again, and the E&Es just make it so the law isn't very impossible, just marginally impossible. I spent about 8 hours today on 30 pages of material, and all the studying techniques I learned during undergrad became laughably inept as I screamed and screamed for mercy.
If you don't get the reference, shame on you.

*Highlights* - Are You READY?!
LOOK OUT for the long awaited 3rd Trey Songz album titled READY coming out AUGUST 31st. It's not too late to pre-order it on Trey Songz' website! There are several packages on the website with various combinations of goodies to go with READY. OOO boy are they GOODIES! Rather yummy goodies too! LOL ;) Check it out! Take a look at the track list and get a little taste for the album at Amazon.com.

Five of the seventeen tracks have already been released either on the radio or his free download-only album, Anticipation, that I previously reviewed. LOL ;) was leaked but it seems to be a hit on the radio despite foiled plans of marketing the song! Definitely a great follow up to In Ya Phone. Both are ringtone and summer ready. The other 12 little snippets are emotional and mental teases. SWOON worthy from every angle whether you're looking for the sexy player that wants to put it on you or for the sensitive lover that appreciates and misses every part of who you are. Swoon? Yes. Definitely swoon.
Even without me fawning over him 24/7, Trey Songz proves himself again and again to everyone that he is a great singer songwriter. There is no need for the slash because he not either or, rather he is both. He displays on this album immense maturity in both arenas. You also get to experience both tried & true, seasoned producers and up and coming younger producers that all come to the table with a touch of the classics and an arsenal of fresh new sounds for a marriage of audio pleasures that titillate both the fans and the general market. You should definitely check out his album which is out a day earlier than planned to make the Grammy nomination deadline. I forsee a golden phonograph on his mantel very soon.
How psyched I am about this album:
